A 44-year-old man and a teenager yesterday denied being involved in breaking into a home at Eteringbang and stealing a quantity of items and were placed on substantial bail by a city magistrate.
It is alleged that between July 29 and August 5, at Eteringbang Landing, Kemuel James, 19, of Pomeroon River, broke and entered the home of Delbert Marks and stole a brush cutter worth $230,000, an RCA laptop computer worth $180,000 and an amplifier worth $10,000, totalling $422,000. James, a miner by possession, pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.
Meanwhile, Richard Johnson, 44, of Mabaruma, was charged with having in his possession the same RCA laptop that belonged to Marks, knowing same to be stolen. He also pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to Johnson’s lawyer Latchmie Rahamat, her client has denied any knowledge that the laptop was stolen and has further denied allegations put forward by the police. Rahamat also told the court that her client should receive reasonable bail since he will clear his name of the charges.
The magistrate subsequently granted James bail in the sum of $120,000 and Johnson, $70,000. The case was adjourned until August 31 for statements.
