Dear Editor,
Youth work is a noble enterprise and several youth groups in Guyana are exemplars in their consistent efforts.
In many regards youth groups buttress the work of central and local governments.
In short youth groups are not only important to moving Georgetown forward but aid in the holistic development of communities of our country. However, like any organization, youth groups face challenges on several fronts, the chief of which is adequate financing.
As a result, in honour of International Youth Day 2016 being celebrated on Friday, August 12, I will be partnering with Navin Singh of ‘Gravity Lounge’ to host a fundraiser.
The fundraiser is being held at ‘Gravity’, Saturday, August 13, 2016, 8PM, $1000 for entry of which 100% of the proceeds will be given as grants to several groups identified, for the advancement of their good work.
The youth groups to benefit are: Guyana Animation Network (GAN); Fruta Conquerors Football Club (Youths); Guyana International Volunteer Effort (GIVE); Give Foundation Guyana; Enterprise Youth Development Group; Come Alive Network Inc. (CANI)
This fundraiser is intended to be the first of a series of planned collaborations to empower youth groups.
Yours faithfully,
Sherod Avery Duncan, LLB, JP.
Deputy Mayor, Municipality of Georgetown
