LONDON, CMC – Both West Indies players Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews suffered the indignity of being dismissed without scoring as their Lancashire Thunder went down by seven wickets to Surrey Stars in the inaugural England Women’s Super League here Tuesday.
Sent in at Woodbridge Road, Thunder could only muster 102 for nine off their 20 overs, with opener Matthews lasting just two balls before falling lbw to South African seamer Marizanne Kapp off the game’s second delivery without a run on the board.
Dottin, meanwhile, entered at 66 for three in the 12th over but lasted only four balls before falling to Alex Hartley in the left-arm spinner’s brilliant four-over spell that yielded three wickets.
Captain Amy Satterthwaite top-scored with 34 from 43 deliveries while opener Emma Lamb chipped in with 27 off 18 balls. The pair put on 38 for the third wicket.
In reply, Stars cruised to their target in the 17th over with talented opener Tammy Beaumont stroking seven boundaries in an unbeaten 45 from 36 balls at the top of the order.
She put on 53 for the first wicket with Bryony Smith whose 30 came from 26 balls and included six fours.
Dottin claimed one for 13 off two overs of medium pace while off-spinner Hayley Matthews, utilizing the new ball, took one for 22.
