A breathtaking sport, swimming has been in the Olympic Games since Athens 1896. Men and women participate in 16 events, including relays and individual competitions in four strokes – freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke.
Today, Guyana’s torch bearer during the Games’ opening ceremony, Hannibal Gaskin will spring into action at 14:22hrs where he will contest the 100m butterfly heats at the Olympic Aquatic Stadium in Rio.
Guyana’s other representative in the discipline, Jamila Sanmoogan starts her bid for a semi-finals berth tomorrow at the same venue in the 50m freestyle heats at 13:02hrs.
