Pepsi Hikers maintained their unbeaten run in the Lucozade Indoor Hockey Championship Men’s Divi-sion, defeating Bounty Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) 6-3 on Tuesday at the National Gymnasium.
It was a hard-fought contest which saw Hikers securing a 3-2 lead at the halftime interval. Devin Munroe gave Hikers the lead as he netted in the sixth minute.
However GCC responded with two goals in seven minutes to take a 2-1 advantage. Peter DeGroot levelled proceedings in the seventh minute before Steven Xavier grabbed the go-ahead goal in the 14th minute.
Nonetheless Hikers battled to seize the contest, outscoring GCC 5-1 in the remaining minutes. Aroydy Branford recorded a hat-trick in the 15th, 17th and 25th minute while Colonel Heywood and Ryan Branford scored in the 27th and 32nd minute each.
Netting a consolation goal in the 31st minute was Kevin Spencer. Meanwhile Old Fort Stallions schooled Old Fort Knockers 9-1. The contest was effectively over at the end of the first half as Stallions raced to a commanding 4-0 lead.
Terry Shaw started the rout with a double in the seventh and 10th minute before Aderemi Simon scored twice in the 15th and 16th minute. Stephon Sprosta pulled one back for Knockers in the 25th minute.
That proved to be Knockers’ only noteworthy moment as Stallions recorded five unanswered goals. Simon recorded a further three goals in the 35th, 37th and 39th minute while Jason DeSantos and Omar Hopkinson netted in the 33rd and 36th minute respectively.
Action in the event will resume tomorrow at the same venue.
