Quincy Henry, the handyman who was charged last October with attempted murder and armed robbery, was yesterday jailed for one week after admitting that he had a knife without reasonable excuse.
Henry, 31, appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh and pleaded guilty to a charge that on July 17, at Regent Street, he had the knife.
Henry had a hard time hearing and he told the court that he cannot hear in one of his ears and has only partial hearing in the other.
According to the prosecution, city police observed Henry standing in front of the Bourda Outpost and saw something sticking out from under his jersey. A search was later conducted on him and the knife was found in his pants waist.
When asked by the city police why he had the weapon, Henry was unable to provide a satisfactory answer.
The court heard that an arrest warrant had been issued for Henry in connection with a wounding case.
Although the magistrate voiced her unwillingness to place Henry in jail given his medical condition, she nevertheless sentenced him to one-week in jail.
Henry was previously charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Troy Bacchus with the intent to commit murder on September 20, at Bourda. He was also charged with robbing a Chinese national of $100,000 cash while being armed with a knife on at Orange Walk, Bourda, last October.
