Pacesetters squeaked past University of Guyana (UG) Trojans 59-53 in their Open Divisional fixture when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA)-sanctioned Turbo King of the Ring Hardcourt Championship continued yesterday.
Staged at the Burnham Court, Sherlan Legall top scored in the win with 16 points. He was assisted by veteran shooter Stephon Gillis who scored 11 points. For the loser, Akeem Kanhai recorded a game high 18 points while Amoniki Archibald contributed nine points.
Trailing 25-19 at the halftime interval, Pacesetters rallied in the pivotal third quarter to take the lead, outscoring the Trojans 17-9 to take a 36-34 lead into the final period.
The home side then closed out the contest as they netted 23 points while restricting their foe to 19 points. On Wednesday at the same venue, a Travis Belgrave-less Eagles went down to Ravens 62-44 in their u23 fixture.
Eagles were grounded without their main scoring threat as the unlikely Lyndon Wilson top scored with 13 points while Darrel Williams assisted with nine points.
For the winner, Sebastian Luke led the way with 16 points while Shamar Huntley provided perfect support with 15 points. Chipping in with 10 points was Anfernee Jervis.
Although it was not a lopsided contest, Eagles seldom troubled Ravens as they surrendered a 16-8 opening period. Luke top scored in the period with six points.
Ravens maintained their advantage heading into the halftime interval as both teams scored 12 points. Huntley scored six points in the quarter whilst Keon Evans recorded four points.
The lead for Ravens grew in the pivotal third period as they outshot their foe 12-10 to enter the final quarter ahead at 40-28. Huntley netted four points for Ravens. On the other side, Williams scored the identical amount.
Ravens completed the deserved result in the fourth quarter, netting 22 points to their opponent’s 16 points. Luke scored nine points for the eventual winner while Wilson netted six points.
Also, Pacesetters crushed the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans by a 101-60 scoreline in their u23 matchup. The event will continue today at the same venue with another doubleheader.
