A resident of Jackass Island, who police say fatally stabbed another man for gossiping about him, was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with murder.
It is alleged that on August 8, at Jackass Island, Puruni River, Mazaruni, Devon Duncan murdered Clint Peters. Duncan was not required to plead to the charge when it was read to him by Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly.
Duncan was later remanded to prison and the case was adjourned until September 8.
Police had said that the suspect accused Peters of “talking his name.” As a result, an argument ensued between them and the accused allegedly stabbed Peters multiple times about his body with a knife. Peters was rushed to the Bartica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Duncan was eventually captured by public-spirited citizens and handed over to the police.
