A man was yesterday charged and remanded to prison for the murder of tractor operator Rampersaud Rattan, who was fatally stabbed during an argument on Monday evening.
Solomon George, called ‘Georgie,’ was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on August 8, at Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara, he murdered Rattan.
He appeared before Magistrate Christel Lambert at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to prison until September 30.
Rattan, 28, called “Arnold” and “Rampo,” of Lot 299 Long Pond, Sisters Village, was stabbed once to the chest during an argument. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he died while receiving medical attention.
A post-mortem examination performed on his remains revealed that he died as a result of a puncture to the heart.
The police, in a statement, said that Rattan and the suspect had an argument, during which the suspect stabbed him to his chest.
Stabroek News was told that the fatal altercation occurred around 11.30 pm on Monday while Rattan was assisting his relatives in cleaning the yard following the celebration of his brother-in-law’s wedding, which was held over the weekend. Rattan’s mother-in-law, Mala (only name given), said that he was attempting to get his assailant off of the property, since he was misbehaving, but the suspect whipped out a knife and stabbed him.
