Pizza Hut Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Hikers and Old Fort Stallions secured contrasting wins when the Lucozade Indoor Hockey Championship continued on Friday at the National Gymnasium.
In the opening fixture of the Women’s Division, Pizza Hut GCC downed Old Fort by a 5-2 margin. Canina Miller gave GCC the early lead with a seventh minute strike. However, Old Fort fired back in the form of Carolyn Deane three minutes later to equalise.
Shonnett Freeman then gave Old Fort the unlikely lead compliments of a 12th minute attempt. But the lead proved to be short-lived as the GCC struck back with four more goals.
The experience in the GCC ranks came to the fore as Gabriella Xavier equalised four minutes later, before sibling Rebecca Xavier struck another, giving their team a 3-2 advantage with the 29th minute goal. Vanessa Pires then doubled their lead as she found the back of the net in the 33rd minute before Gabriella Xavier sealed her brace three minutes later for the victory.
Meanwhile, in the second matchup of the same section, Hikers pierced GCC Spartans 5-0. Tekeisha Deleon scored a hat-trick on either side of half time in the fifth, 15th and 40th minute. Chipping in with goals were Charlyn Elliot and Maria Munroe in the 12th and 37th minute respectively.
In their Men’s Divisional fixture, Old Fort Stallions brushed aside Saints by a 4-1 margin. Following a 1-0 score line at the end of half-time compliments of a Jason DeSantos eighth minute conversion for Stallions, the team scored three goals before Saints could etch their name on the scorer’s sheet.
Omar Hopkinson scored twice in the 26th and 36th minute before DeSantos sealed his double one minute onward. On target for the loser was Hilton Chester in the 39th minute.
