KINGTOWN, St.Vincent, CMC- Trinidad and Tobago and Leeward Islands have registered their first wins in round three of the WICB Regional Under19 One Day Championships here on Saturday.
T&T inflicted an excruciating 151-run triumph over ICC Americas at Park Hill Playing Field while Leewards overpowered Guyana by 30 runs at Arnos Vale Playing Field.
The young Trinidadians, who lost to Jamaica and Barbados, secured victory on the backs of a powerful half century from Kirstan Kallicharan and the bowling of Jarlanie Seales and Negus Smith who shared seven wickets.
Kallicharan, the West Indies Youth World Cup star, hit a top score of 78 counting eight fours and a six as T&T piled up 279 for nine from their 50 overs with Jonathan Bootan, Keagan Simmons and Bryan Boodram contributing 32, 28 and 26.
Kallicharan’s innings is his highest in the tournament and he is now the leading scorer with a total of 123 runs from three innings.
Aran Pathmanathan and Rommell Shahzad took two for 39 and two for 70.
ICC Americas’s did not put up a fight and was bowled out for 128 with an even 50 coming from Abrassh Khan.
Seales and Smith finished with four for 33 and three for 40.
Meantime a half century from Tyrone Williams and seven wickets between Kian Pemberton and Camron Pennyfeather catapulted the Leewards to their first win in the tournament, over Guyana.
Williams smashed 69 from 88 balls with six fours and three sixes to carry the Leewards to 229 for 9 in 50 overs at Arnos Vale Playing Field.
Williams’ score, his highest in the tournament thus far, makes him the third highest scorer after three innings.
There were also starts for Ross Powell 38 and Kofi James 32 while Akenie Adams and Bhaskar Yadram picked up two wickets each.
Guyana recovered from 30 for the loss of three wickets before being bowled out for 192 in 46 overs with Joshua Persaud and Bhaskar Yadram each scoring 44.
Pemberton grabbed four for 29 and Camron Pennyfeather three for 29.
Over at Sion Hill, Barbados crashed to their first defeat in three games, going down by three wickets to Windward Islands who recorded their second win in as many matches.
Windwards’ success over the Bajans hinged on an impressive allround effort from West Indies Youth World Cup hero Ryan John.
The lanky Grenadian seamer undermined the batting with three for 30 to bowl out Barbados for 178 in 47.3 overs.
He was ably assisted by Jonathan Taylor who picked up three for 28.
Another West Indies youth World Cup star, Shemar Springer led the batting with a top score of 63 while Joshua Bishop contributed 35.
Emmanuel Stewart led the run chase with a top score of 54 while his Grenadian countryman John supported with 46 not out to carry the Windwards home.
Bishop grabbed three for 35 while Tremaine Harris and Deswin Currency accounted for two wickets each.
