A Laing Avenue man, who was charged with stealing over $500,000 in jewellery in two armed robberies, was yesterday freed.
Magistrate Fabayo Azore dismissed the charges that were laid against 29-year-old Dwayne Hardy.
It was alleged that on June 5, at Mandela Avenue, in the company of others, Hardy robbed Devon Singh of a gold chain, valued $80,000. It was also alleged that he robbed Dwayne Singh of a gold chain, valued $400,000, and a gold earring, valued $100,000.
Hardy had initially pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to the magistrate, she dismissed the charges since there was no evidence linking Hardy to the crimes and because of other discrepancies in the case.
Hardy had told the court that men who he was accused of robbing never identified him although he had a visible tattoo on his left hand.
Magistrate Azore dismissed the charges and told Hardy that he was free to go.
