Smythfield Rockers secured their first win of the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned A. Ally and Sons Senior Championship defeating Fyrish Black Sharks via walkover on Sunday.
Staged at the Vryman’s Erven Court, Rockers claimed the victory without breaking a sweat following the Black Sharks failure to take the field at the scheduled start of the showdown.
Rockers secured three points for the win.
The event, which will be played on a round-robin basis, will feature six teams from under the association’s umbrella.
Upon the completion of the group stage, the top two teams from each zone will progress to the elimination round.
The other competing teams are Ithaca Hardliners, New Amsterdam Warriors, Rose Hall Town Jammers and the Guyana Human Development Centre (GHDC).
Group-A will comprise of Smithfield Rockers, Black Sharks and Ithaca Hardliners while group-B will consist of Rose Hall Town Jammers, GHDC and New Amsterdam Warriors.
Action in the event will resume Sunday at the Tain Basketball Court from 16:00hrs, with Rose Hall Town Jammers locking horns with GHDC. Matches in the tournament are being held every Sunday.
Trophies and Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy will also be up for grabs.
