Dear Editor,
If there is one issue that most people can agree on, it is the issue of the urgency of putting mechanisms in place to eradicate poverty and create an enabling environment for every individual to enjoy the good life.
That is exactly what the idea of a new global human order is all about. Initiated by the previous PPP/C government with the support of over fifty nations, it was adopted unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly in October 2010 much to the credit of our foreign service missions overseas, in particular at the United Nations.
I understand that the matter is now on the UN agenda for implementation. This would be a great honour for Guyana which initiated the resolution. It will also be a fitting tribute to the late Dr Cheddi Jagan whose brainchild it was, and who was a strong and passionate advocate for a more humane and just global society.
I urge the Guyana government to do everything within its power to lobby the diplomatic community to render full support to this global initiative.
The need for a new global architecture is long overdue and the implementation of this resolution by the United Nations can be regarded as a renewed call for action to reduce if not eradicate global poverty and create a better society for all.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
