Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pitbulls and Bounty GCC secured contrasting wins over Old Fort Knockers and GCC Vintage respectively when the Lucozade Indoor Hockey Championships continued Tuesday.
Staged at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, GCC Pitbulls mauled Old Fort Knockers 8-4 with Shaquille Leung opening the scoring for Pitbulls with a third minute conversion.
Knockers equalised three minutes later as Stephon Sprosta found the back of the net. However, Meshach Sargeant restored the Pitbulls advantage two minutes later before Leung made it 3-1 in the 10th minute.
The back-and-forth nature of the match continued in the 11th minute as Robert Brummell pulled on back for Knockers. Mark Sargeant got amongst the goals in the 13th minute for Pitbulls as the score read 4-2.
However, Brummell fired back to make it 4-3 with a 15th minute conversion.
It was from this point where the Pitbulls strengthened their grip on the contest, scoring four goals to their foe’s one.
Leung recorded a further four goals to add to his earlier two conversions. He scored in the 16th minute to complete his hat-trick before recording his helmet trick with a 22nd minute strike.
He added his fifth with a 27th minute attempt before sealing his sixth of the evening six minutes onward. Sprosta eventually recorded a consolation goal in the 38th minute. Meanwhile, Bounty GCC downed GCC Vintage 8-3 compliments of a second half blitz.
Tied at 2-2 entering the second half, Bounty GCC outscored their club rivals six goals to one to earn the vital points. Daniel Hooper gave Bounty GCC the 3-2 lead with a 26th minute strike before Kevin Spencer scored in the 30th minute to make it 4-2.
Steven Xavier scored one minute onward to extend his side’s advantage at 5-2. Hooper continued his scoring act in the 36th minute to further strengthen Bounty’s position before Kareem McKenzie pushed the score line to 7-2 with a 37th minute attempt.
Vintage recorded a late goal to briefly stem the onslaught in the 38th minute through Eric Hing. Nonetheless, Bounty GCC completed the victory as Kevin Spender scored in the 39th minute.
Prior to the second half rout, Devin Hooper scored in the second and 10th minute for Vintage whilst Spencer and Peter DeGroot netted in the 12th and 15th minute respectively for Bounty GCC. The event is slated to continue on Friday at the same venue.
