The prime suspect in the murder of the 14-year-old Malika Hamilton, was caught by ranks of the Guyana Police force, hiding in a barrel in the Ann’s Grove cemetery.
Hamilton of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was found dead in the Hope Canal, ECD on August 9 subsequent to being missing for two days.
The police in a statement said ranks made the capture early yesterday morning.
The suspect who goes by the nickname “Satan” had managed to dodge the police in the past.
Yesterday in a telephone interview, Atisha Cambridge, Hamilton’s mother, said she was happy police have arrested the suspect.
“I am hoping police would be able to do a good investigation. He was the last person she was seen with,” she said.
The mother added that she learned of the arrest yesterday morning when she awakened and heard persons in the community talking about it.
Stabroek News had reported that the young woman went to her cousin’s home to plait her hair but never showed up. When family members realized that Hamilton was missing they made several searches and came up empty handed. A report was made to the police.
Hamilton was discovered after a resident informed the family that a body had been spotted in the Hope Canal.
