Dear Editor,
Qualifying for a final of any kind at the Olympic level to my mind is a great accomplishment. Many will not agree with me because they will say a medal is of more importance, but at the end of the day, I stand with the IOC’s motto which says in part that one’s participation is as important as being a medal winner.
Troy Doris, USA-based Guyanese should be commended for his representation on behalf of Guyana, and for being the world’s 7th best currently. But what happens to Troy Doris after Rio?
Will there now be collaboration with Doris’s USA camp and the Ministry of Education which overlooks sport in Guyana along with the Sports Commission and the Guyana Olympic Association as he prepares for Tokyo 2020 and possibly London 2017 for the World Championships?
On the other hand, I appreciate the representation of the entire Guyana contingent at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
