A second suspect is to be charged with the August 1st murder of taxi driver Orin David, according to Acting Crime Chief Hugh Jessemy.
Jessemy told Stabroek News that based on information received, the man was arrested earlier this week and placed on an identification parade, during which he was positively identified. A case file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who recommended that the suspect face a murder charge. He is scheduled to appear in a city court on Monday.
David, of Lot 89 Laing Avenue, was reportedly drinking alcohol with some friends and relatives near to his house when he was approached by two persons whom he knew. The three men engaged in a conversation away from the drinking and were later seen arguing over what was reported to have been money owed to David.
An eyewitness said the two men left and returned with others, while pointing out that when the two men returned, two vehicles and two motorcycles with men came with them.
“I don’t know if they came to fight a war or something but one of them had a big gun that he was hiding and I don’t know if they had other people in the car with guns too but when he see them coming he started walking back to them ’cause is nah like he expect them to shoot he,” the man related, while pointing out that after the man reached the middle of the road, one of the two men pulled out a “big gun” and fired three shots, hitting David.
So far, Samuel McIntyre, the suspected driver of the gateway car used by the men who gunned down David, has been charged.
David, called ‘Plait Hair,’ along with Shawn Anthony Thom, had been charged with the murder of Lakeram Bishundial, who was fatally shot during a robbery at Hope, East Coast Demerara, on August 21st, 2010. He was found not guilty of the murder in February last year.
