Guyana’s three-member team of Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra ended with four silver medals and two bronze medals after four days battling players from the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba and Suriname at the Caribbean Badminton International Open Under-19 championships(CAREBACO) which ended Sunday at the Centro Deportivo Sports Hall, Aruba.
The Guyanese players were in two finals Sunday night but lost both.
In the mixed doubles final, Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani lost to Shae Martin and Amanda Haywood of Barbados 21-9, 21-16 while in the boy’s doubles final Ramdhani and Mangra lost to Martin and Keshem Moore of Barbados in a thrilling three setter 21-17, 15-21, 19-21.
Narayan Ramdhani ended with silver medals in the boy’s and mixed doubles events and a bronze medal in the U19 singles while his sister captured a bronze medal in the girl’s singles and a silver in the mixed doubles.
Mangra ended with a silver medal in the boy’s U19 doubles.
The players participation was made possible through assistance from Mohamed’s Enterprise, Republic Bank, the National Sports Commission, BK International, Hand in Hand Insurance, Crown Mining, Gio Tech and Cosmopolitan Trading.
The players, with the inclusion of Ambika Ramraj, will now turn their attention to the team events which commenced yesterday.
Guyana is in Group B with Barbados and Aruba while Group A consists of Dominican Republic, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
