Guyana’s four-member badminton team of Narayan Ramdhani, Jonathan Mangra, Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj topped their group after playing unbeaten in yesterday’s round robin group fixtures of the Caribbean Badminton Championships in Aruba to set up a clash against Suriname in the knockout round.
Playing at the Centro Deportivo Sports Hall in the team tournament of the annual CAREBACO championships, Guyana defeated Aruba 5-0 and edged Barbados 3-2.
In the match against Barbados, Jonathan Mangra defeated Shae Martin, 21-13, 15-21, 21-19; Ambika Ramraj lost to Amanda Hayood, 6-21, 9-21; Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra defeated Jehu Gaskin & Keshem Moore, 21-15, 21-10 in the boys doubles match, Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj defeated Samantha and Cheyanna Burnett-Griffith: 21-14, 21-6 and Narayan Ramdhani & Priyanna Ramdhani lost to Shae Martin & Amanda Haywood: 16-21, 16-21
Against Aruba, Narayan Ramdhani defeated Efraim Van Der Linden: 21-7, 21-4; Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Thyrza Van Der Linden, 21-10, 21-10; Narayan Ramdhani & Jonathan Mangra defeated Tim Hankark & Efraim van Der Linden: 21-3, 21-5; Priyanna Ramdhani & Ambika Ramraj defeated Leyenne Schairer & Thyrza Van Der Linden, 21-8, 21-15 and Jonathan Mangra & Ambika Ramraj defeated: Jai Lalwani & Leyenne Schairer, 21-4, 21-6.
