Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford-Thompson yesterday closed her case against Barry Dataram and three others accused of trafficking 284 pounds of cocaine that were found at his Diamond Housing Scheme residence. Dataram, his common-law wife Anjanie Boodnarine, Kevin Charran, and Trevor Gouveia are currently on trial before city magistrate Judy Latchman for possession of 129.230 kilogrammes of cocaine (equivalent to 284 pounds) that were found on April 16, 2015 at the Lot 661 Silver Dam, Fourth Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme house.
Prior to closing her case at yesterday’s hearing, the court heard that the testimony of HGPTV employee Travis Chase and station manager Nyjel Fraser were no longer needed by the prosecution.
Both Chase and Fraser were subsequently excused by the magistrate.
CANU officer Roy Murray was later cross-examined by Dataram’s attorney, Glenn Hanoman.
At the end of the hearing, Hanoman requested a date later in the month to submit his written submissions in response to the prosecutor’s case as he expected that he would be traveling next week and would be unable to submit same to the court.
But the request for a later date was not granted and Hanoman was asked to submit his written submissions on September 9, when the matter will be called again.
