Arthur Chung Convention Centre designated court for gold smuggling case

As of September 22nd, the court of Magistrate Judy Latchman will be temporarily relocated to the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, to accommodate the receipt of video evidence in a gold smuggling case.

According to information received from Assistant Commissioner of Police and Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) Sydney James, this move will be indefinite, as it is dependent on the length of time it will take for testimonies of the overseas witnesses to be delivered.

A notice in Monday’s edition stated that the acting Chancellor of the Judiciary Carl Singh had “designated the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, a Magistrate’s Court, with sittings there to commence Monday 22nd August, 2016, until further notice.”

The session was, however, postponed due to “procedural measures,” that needed to be followed through, as was indicated by James yesterday.
