Guyana’s Priyanna Ramdhani won two gold medals at the two-day Caribbean Regional Badminton tournament in Aruba yesterday.
Ramdhani won gold in the U15 girls singles and doubles while her brother Narayan copped a bronze medal in the boys U19 singles.
The Caribbean Regional Badminton Championships is the third and final part of the CAREBACO events.
It was held at the Centro Deportivo Sports Hall in Aruba and is Open only to Caribbean members countries.
Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Aruba were the countries which participated.
In the girls’ U15 final Ramdhani defeated Abigael Hing of Suriname 21-5, 21-4 while in semi-finals she ousted Lyeene Schareir of Aruba 21-3, 21-4. She then teamed up with Daniela Acosta of the Dominican Republic to defeat Johanna Lebron Ortiz and Karianet Morales Mercado of Puerto Rico: 21-8, 21-7 in the girls doubles final.
In the U19 boys singles semi-finals Narayan Ramdhani lost to Caesar Brito of the Dominican Republic 3-21, 20-22.
Guyana’s Jonathan Mangra lost to Matthew Lee of Jamaica, 21-12, 21-11 in their quarter final match.
