A 14-year-old was held following the discovery of two pounds of cocaine in the handles of his suitcase while he was waiting to board a flight destined for New York at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri (CJIA) on Friday afternoon.
A police source confirmed to Stabroek News that the ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch conducted a search on the teen’s suitcase around 4.20 pm and uncovered 1.4 kg of cocaine in the handles.
At the time of the discovery, the boy was travelling alone. He was returning home after spending his August school vacation in Guyana.
Four other persons, including the teenager’s parents, were subsequently arrested.
Up to late yesterday afternoon, the five remained in custody and charges are likely to be laid against them early this week.
