Smythfield Rockers humbled Ithaca Hardliners 79-41 when the A. Ally’s & Sons basketball championships continued Sunday at the Ithaca Basketball Court, Berbice.
Gladwin Cort top scored with 27 points while Jamal Felix supported with 23 and Tyrone Day 14. For Ithaca Hardliners, Kester Sinclair scored 11 points while Royan Solomon and Elroy Amsterdam scored seven and six points respectively. It was a contest dominated from start to finish by the visitors, with the first half ending 37-23 after Rockers took the first quarter 12-7 before extending their advantage in the second quarter by outscoring the home side handsomely at 25-16.
The lead grew in the third quarter as Rockers outscored Hardliners 13-10 to go ahead 50-33 and the contest was sealed as the visitors recorded an impressive 29 points to their foe’s eight points.
Rockers earned three points for the win.
The event, which will be played on a round-robin basis, will feature six teams from under the association’s umbrella.
Upon the completion of the group stage, the top two teams from each zone will progress to the elimination round.
