Dear Editor,
I was recently taken aback while speaking with a senior official of the Child Care & Protection Agency (CCPA) when I was told that the agency would be hesitant to remove a child or children from an adult’s parentage because of the resulting outcry from the public. I immediately thought that it is ridiculous to even think of the public outcry when the interest and welfare of the child and wider society is supposed to be of the primary concern to the CCPA.
I had already gone into detail about the seriousness of an individual’s maltreatment of the children, akin to cruelty. I expressed my layman’s view that the individual should be confined to a mental asylum or imprisoned. I am quite certain that the individual would not be allowed into the public space in developed countries, but this leads to another issue, as our society allows many deranged and dangerous people to roam our streets. We have had instances of these people suddenly attacking others.
I had made a report to the police station about the person on three occasions, and the officers went and spoke with the individual, but the person persists with loud, foul-mouthed, violent and abusive behaviour.
I wonder if my next letter will be condemned by the police & CCPA when I write about harm to one or both children or a member of the public at the hands of this psychotic person.
