Gomattie Ramrattan, the businesswoman who was shot during a robbery attempt at her Diamond New Scheme home on Wednesday, is expected to undergo surgery today as the police continue their search for the perpetrators.
Ramrattan, called ‘Aunty Sabie,” of Lot 1279 Diamond New Scheme, EBD, sustained a single gunshot wound in the attack and remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The attack occurred around 5.30 pm, when Ramrattan had just returned home. She was entering her yard when she was attacked by two armed bandits, who held her at gunpoint and demanded that she let them into her house. She reportedly refused and raised an alarm by shouting. As a result, the gunmen discharged a single round, which struck Ramrattan to her neck, and they escaped.
Neighbours rushed Ramrattan to the hospital.
Ramrattan owns and operates a grocery, which is attached to her house. One of Ramrattan’s relatives said that the woman had regained consciousness and was more stable. The relative added that the police had related to them that they were reviewing CCTV footage from a security camera in the area as the search for the men continues.
