Paradise overcame Litchfield United by a 5-2 score line when the Berbice Football Association (BFA) leg of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Namilco Thunderbolt Flour u17 Championship continued yesterday.
While the scoreline might point to a lopsided encounter, the contest was highly competitive especially in the opening half at the Mahaicony ground.
Godwin Humphrey gave Paradise the early lead as he blasted past the custodian in the 10th minute. Litchfield responded in equal measure 10 minutes onward as Kahdon Archibald slotted into the right corner.
Paradise restored their advantage in the 27th minute as Niall Reynolds found the back of the net. It then became 3-1 in the 34th minute as Tareek Been etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.
However, the back and forth nature of the match ensued as Tyrone Pompey pulled one back on the stroke of halftime in the 45th minute.
Upon the resumption, Paradise seized control of the fixture as Benn netted his second with a 54th minute conversion. The encounter was sealed six minutes later as Reynolds completed his double.
Due to the outcome, Paradise clinched three points while the loser received zero points. Over at the Burnham Park, New Amsterdam (NA) United defeated Mahaicony FC via a walkover after the latter failed to take the field.
With the result, NA United secured three points without breaking a sweat while Mahaicony left empty handed. Meanwhile on Wednesday, Mahaicony United downed Monedderlust FC by a 3-0 margin at the Mahaicony ground.
Shane McKenzie led the home side with a second double in the 65th and 68th minute. He was supported by Nathan Johnny who had opened the scoring in the 28th minute. With the result, Mahaicony earned three points. For the loser, they left without any points.
While the contest was not the most fluent display of the sport, it was the home side that looked more likely to engineer the first goal. This eventually occurred 28 minutes into the encounter as Johnny scored.
Racing onto a fortuitous clearance from his defensive line following a thwarted Monedderlust attack, Johnny raced away from the opposing rearguard before finishing past the advancing custodian from inside the box.
The home side consolidated their lead heading into the halftime interval. Although the encounter mirrored the first stanza, the home side found the back of the net twice to seal the result.
McKenzie got into the scoring act 20 minutes into the resumption as a cross from the right side fell into his path inside the left of the area, allowing the forward to place his effort past the goalkeeper.
The score line was sealed three minutes onward as McKenzie netted his second, pouncing on a loose ball after an initial shot from a teammate was parried into his path by the goalkeeper before lashing into the net.
