(Trinidad Guardian) A father and son who were said to be inseparable died together early yesterday when their Tacarigua home caught fire.
Killed were 91-year-old Samuel Baldeo and his son, Kenneth “Nanaboy” Baldeo, 67.
The Fire Service said around 12.15 a.m., residents of Thavenot Street, Tacarigua, noticed smoke and raised an alarm, which resulted in other residents contacting the authorities.
Smoke was seen coming from the top floor of the two-storey house, near the corner of Boodoo Street.
Officers from the Tunapuna Fire Station and the San Juan Fire Station responded, as well as officers from the Arouca Police Station and the Tunapuna Police Station.
The Sunday Express was told by residents that officers did their best to control the blaze and keep the fire from spreading to other houses in the community.
When officers were able to enter the property, they found the bodies of both men near the house.
It is believed they died as a result of smoke inhalation.
A post-mortem will be done tomorrow at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park to determine their exact cause of death.
Dad always there in times of need
The Sunday Express spoke with the daughter of Kenneth Baldeo.
Kimone Baldeo described her father as a “kind and well-liked person. He was friendly and well-liked by his neighbours as his willingness to always help people and always being there for people in their times of need.”
Baldeo said her father and grandfather were close.
“They were very close and they lived and died together, and their lives were intertwined and so were their deaths,” she said.
