Dear Editor,
I paid my National Insurance Scheme (NIS) dues for over 40 years and made close to 1,400 contributions. I am disappointed that my NIS pension is only $25,000 when I am supposed to receive about $40,000.I applied for my pension in 2008 and got it one year later, and I feel as though I am being robbed. I made two appeals but I still didn’t get an increase.
That is not fair; labour is important and I worked my sweat out day and night in the fields at GuySuCo. I worked my way up from a junior staff member to become a field foreman. I also worked at other places.
I wrote the previous government and took the pay slips. I was asked to return the following week and when I did they told me to go back to NIS.
Editor, I hope someone can look into the matter because I would really like to receive the full amount that I am owed.
Yours faithfully,
Surujnauth Sukhram
