Ahead of round three’s clash in the ongoing Jaguars Franchise League
Three-day tournament against East Coast, Georgetown Coach, Garvin Nedd said he is looking for a bit more patience and consistency from his players in order to achieve a much needed outright win.
Georgetown, who are in sixth place with 10.6 points, lost to table leaders Lower Corentyne by nine wickets last Sunday at Albion after three days of intense cricket.
Nedd speaking with Stabroek Sports said that more work needs to be done in all the departments in order for Georgetown to unleash their full potential.
“Basically we need more consistency with the batting. Apart from that, I think we had some poor umpiring decisions in the last game,” said the former national off-spinner.
Nedd, however, lauded the efforts of his bowlers, especially the spinners who were chief among the wickets but indicated that a bit more endurance will be needed from them in the upcoming rounds.
“As much as they bowled well I don’t think they were patient enough because we had too much boundary balls so I think the guys did well but they just need to be a bit more patient. I would say that in any team, we would want to capitalize on chances so in the practice sessions we will be working hard on those areas, especially our fielding, he said.
After the weather-affected first round match against East Bank at Everest followed by the losing encounter against Lower Corentyne at Albion, Georgetown will play their second of three matches at Bourda and the coach indicated that it is crucial to utilize the home conditions in order to achieve a win.
“We will be looking to maximize on our home game and get an outright win,” said Nedd.
Nedd said that the tournament is a good way of finding young talent adding that he expects a few of his budding stars to put their hands up over the next few weeks.
“I think this tournament is an opportunity for young players to market themselves, the competition will have lots of chances for some of our young players to market themselves and put their hands up.”
Despite a few decent starts from the batters in the previous rounds, Nedd pointed out that changes to the side could be made. However, he
did not identify players but noted that in looking at the averages of
a few players it is quite possible that one of the reserves could likely have a chance to play soon.
Regarding the mood in the camp, the coach said that the players are still bonding but expects them to be a bit more unified as they progress. “As a team we are still gelling. Most of them haven’t played together before so they are getting to know each other as we go forwards but we just need to go out and play as a unit.”
Round three’s action will bowl off tomorrow from 9:30hrs.
