Two men armed with cutlasses attacked a fisherman and his wife of Lot 1 Johanna, North Black Bush Polder at around 9 pm on Tuesday and carted off $500,000 in cash and jewellery.
Amar Budhoo, 37, and his wife Bibi Khodabux, 25, had already retired to bed when the men entered their home. According to Khodabux, she woke up and came face to face with one of the bandits. She relayed that the perpetrator grabbed her by the neck, yelled profanities and demanded cash.
Meanwhile, the second perpetrator gained entry through the bedroom window where Budhoo was fast asleep. Khodabux stated that her husband was dealt several lashes by the perpetrator and that he sustained a minor chop wound to his chest during the ordeal which lasted about five minutes.
Fearing for their lives, the couple handed over jewellery and cash. The perpetrators then made their escape on foot. Commander of B Division, Ian Amsterdam, when contacted confirmed to Stabroek News that two persons have been detained.
