Bourda Market vendors, who were temporarily prevented from selling along a section of Robb Street, resumed operations last night following their agreement with the city to keep the area clean.
The agreement was struck after a meeting with Town Clerk Royston King on Wednesday.
Last night, during a visit to the market, Stabroek News observed vendors operating as per normal. However, earlier in the afternoon, vendors, accustomed to selling from early hours, were prevented and had to wait until 4.30 to begin their trade.
The vendors said they were happy that the suspension was withdrawn.
On Tuesday, vendors were prevented from selling in the vicinity of Robb Street between Alexander and Bourda streets after the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) halted their operations due to the unsanitary state of the area and the high cost to collect and dispose waste.
Vendors have been advised to use the receptacles provided on Orange Walk to dump their garbage.
The vendors were peeved at the decision, which was put into effect without any prior notice.
Many complained bitterly of losses as a result.
Stabroek News was told that the area was cleaned and sanitised by workers of the M&CC prior to the vendors returning.
