Hits and Jams Television (HJTV) is now back on air, while the company’s radio station is operating at a limited capacity following a fire on Thursday, according to company Director Kerwin Bollers.
A fire that erupted in the transmission room of the Hits and Jams studios, located at Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, after lightning struck a transmission tower, resulted in the stations going off air temporarily.
Bollers, Director of Hits and Jams Entertainment, yesterday explained that the company is still doing a damage assessment.
He noted, however, that HJTV is now back on air, while the company’s radio station, 94.1 Boom FM, will be operated at a limited capacity since damage was done to several pieces of equipment.
These, he said, would have to be sent overseas for repairs.
On Thursday, Bollers explained that lightning struck the tower, causing a surge in the transmission room, which in turn led to an ignition of electrical wires in the room, resulting in a fire.
The fire didn’t cause any major damage as one employee was able to use a fire extinguisher to douse the flames, while others moved to safety before summoning the Guyana Fire Service.
By time the fire tenders arrived, the situation was already under control and members of staff were seen standing outside looking on.
According to Bollers, everyone managed to exit the building without injury.
