The police have failed to make a case against Regan Rodrigues, the man accused of killing political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing, the murder accused’s lawyer yesterday told a city court.
During his closing submissions at the preliminary inquiry into the charge against Rodrigues, attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson stated that the prosecution’s witnesses failed to establish that it was the defendant who committed the offence.
The charge against Rodrigues, called ‘Grey Boy,’ states that on March 10th, 2015, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, he murdered Crum-Ewing.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt, who was holding for special prosecutor Nigel Hughes, requested an adjournment since Hughes was out of the jurisdiction.
The matter was later adjourned to September 14, when the prosecution is expected to make its submissions and a ruling is to be made on whether there is enough evidence for prima facie case to be made out against Rodrigues.
Crum-Ewing was killed while on a campaign urging Diamond residents to vote against the then PPP/C government at the May 11th elections.
He was shot five times, including three times to the head.
