Off-spinner Gajanan Suknanan bagged seven wickets to put Georgetown in a strong position against East Coast on the second day of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Jaguars Franchise League three-day match at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda, yesterday.
After rain reduced the encounter to two days following Thursday’s abandoned opening day, the hosts dismissed their opponents for 148 in the first innings.
Suknanan, who bagged four wickets against Lower Corentyne, was sublime yesterday snatching up 7-37.
Gavin Boodwah and Ramnarine Chatura, who each scored 40 runs were the top-scorers among a dismal scorecard for the East Coast boys.
At stumps heading into today’s final day, Georgetown were 65-3 trailing by 85 runs on first innings after Robin Bacchus fell for 18 while his opening partner Andrew Lyght Jr., scored 25.
Ovid Richardson (04) was the last wicket to fall as all-rounder Vivian Albert picked up 2-10 bowling for East Coast.
Other scores in round three
Over at Cumberland, West Demerara, defeated West Berbice by an innings and 124 runs inside two days.
West Demerara, resuming on their overnight score of 276/5 finished on 369/9, declaring with a massive lead of 338.
Raymon Reifer (119), Akshaya Persaud (73), National U19 skipper Travis Persaud (39), Kemol Savory (28) and Rishi Looknauth (22 not out) were the main contributors.
Bowling for West Berbice, former West Indies Test pacer Brandon Bess returning to cricket, bagged 2/33, while Javed Karim and Kevi Jawahir claimed 2-46 and 2-104, respectively.
West Berbice, who were dismissed for 30 in the first innings were bowled out for 114 with Jawahir making 45.
Bowling for West Demerara, Persaud returned with the ball to claim 4/30 while Looknauth claimed 3/45.
At Port Mourant, Upper Corentyne gained first innings lead over table leaders Lower Corentyne.
Lower Corentyne were dismissed for 162 in the first innings with Surujnarine Kandasammy scoring 62. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Eon Hooper bagged 5/18.
Resuming on 133/5, Upper Corentyne were eventually bowled out for 220 with skipper Rajiv Ivan top scoring with 62.
Lower Corentyne in their second innings scored 205 all out with Kandasammy top scoring again with 86.
The in-form Johnathan Foo hit 40 while David Latchaya missed out on what could have been his second fifty of the tournament falling for 49.
Hooper was the chief destroyer again with his second five wicket haul of the match, 5/48.
He was supported by Omesh Mathura (3-23) and pacer Clinton Pestano (2-20).
At Everest, no play was possible on day two because of a wet outfield.
Play will continue on today at GCC, Port Mourant and Everest.
