A proposal is on the table to relocate minibus operators from the Linden bus park on Hadfield Street in order to accommodate Route 41 (South Ruim-veldt) operators.
Mayor and City Council (M&CC) Public Relations Officer Debra Lewis explained that the proposal, which would see the Linden operators being moved to the vicinity of the Ashmin’s Mall on High and Hadfield streets, is being considered. She noted that the council would engage in consultations with the minibus operators before a final decision is made.
The South Ruimveldt operators are currently operating on Croal Street, next to the Kitty bus park.
However, the city could face opposition from Linden operators, a few of whom told Stabroek News on Friday that relocating them would be unfair to both them and passengers.
“It would be inconvenient to us because the passengers would not want to come till across the road they would prefer to go in a car or a big bus. We won’t get to hustle for our passengers,” one operator, who did not want to be named, said.
Another explained that the proposal is unreasonable and would only create confusion. He stated that the Linden park is organized and the attitude displayed by conductors and drivers of the South Ruimveldt bus park would create confusion.
He suggested that they move the South Ruimveldt bus park to the location they are proposing to relocate the Linden buses.
