Guyana Jaguars all-rounder Raymon Reifer says that he is delighted with his current form in the ongoing Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) three-day Franchise League tournament as he prepares for the upcoming Regional season in November.
With Guyana only a few months away from commencing their third consecutive Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional Four-Day title defence it is important for key players to find the necessary match form required for what promises to be a testing season.
In the case of the Barbados-born Reifer, who has been in Guyana for nearly three years, he has been a key player for the Jaguars in all formats and while his Regional experience outweighs that of playing around Guyana, the Local Franchise League has been so far kind to him.
After a decent string of starts with the bat in this year’s Franchise League, 32, 22, 08 and 38, the left-hander went on to score 121 which was his first ton in Guyana’s domestic setup.
“It is always good to be scoring 100’s as a batsman and getting into good habits especially going into the First Class Season,” he told Stabroek Sport Sunday during an interview.
“I’m definitely enjoying playing the local league, I think it gives player match practice and confidence going into the season which is good”, he added.
When asked on how he had planned on preparing for such an innings and some of the things he would have done, he noted that sticking to the basics was critical during the innings.
“I didn’t try to do too much when I was batting. I just watched the ball for as long as possible and scored when it was in my areas,” he explained.
The left-arm swing bowler, who represents West Demerara district, has bagged some 14 wickets in the competition to date and believed that the constant changes in venues has aided in his success.
“I’m enjoying playing on different surfaces here in Guyana. Going around to different venues, it is definitely helping my all-round game because you have to adjust as quickly as possible and utilize your skills to get success.”
With a few more rounds left in the three-dayers the Barbados Tridents player lauded his young teammates Travis Persaud, Akshaya Persaud, Romario Shepherd and Richie Looknauth all of whom he said he was impressed by and said he hoped they will continue to perform as they progress.
