A policeman, who is one of the witnesses in the trial of the three men charged with dousing newspaper columnist Freddie Kissoon with faeces, has denied an accusation by one of the accused that he drove the vehicle used for the getaway after the attack.
Constable Kerry Joseph, who is attached to the Crime Intelligence section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), when asked by Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick if he was the driver of the vehicle on the day the attack occurred, stated no.
PPP members Kwame McCoy and Jason Abdulla and former bodyguard Shawn Hinds are on trial before Magistrate Judy Latchman for assaulting Kissoon, whom they are accused of dousing with human faeces during an attack in 2010.
During his testimony yesterday, Joseph stated that an allegation was made against him by Abdulla, who gave a statement to the police in which he identified him as being the driver of the vehicle that transported the now deceased Osmond Griffith to throw faeces in Kissoon’s face.
When asked whether he had an issue with Abdulla prior to the attack, Joseph said he did not.
According to the witness, he knew Abdulla for about eight years only by seeing him around the Government Technical Institute.
He added that they were both students of the institution but were never friends and never spoke.
When asked if he knew Griffith, the witness responded in the affirmative and testified that he had seen him in the East Ruimveldt area.
Joseph also told the court that he has also known Hinds for about 10 years from seeing him around the Ruimveldt area but he once again denied being friends with Hinds or having ever spoken to him.
Magistrate Latchman subsequently adjourned the matter to October 5th, when Joseph is to be cross examined by the defence attorneys.
