Police are currently searching for the suspect in the murder of a Brazilian gold miner, who was fatally chopped at Sourie Backdam, Puruni, on Friday evening.
The victim was identified by police as Helio Batista Xavier Neves, 47, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bartica Hospital, where he was rushed after the attack.
A police statement, issued yesterday, said the deceased had an altercation with his assailant over parts for an excavator around 8pm on Friday. As a result, the police said the suspect armed himself with a cutlass and dealt the deceased multiple chops about his body.
