Lower Corentyne continued its dominance as they crushed East Bank Demerara by an innings and 38 runs to maintain their number one spot in the ongoing Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Jaguars Franchise League three-day tourney.
Played at the Lusignan Ground, the table leaders, resuming on their overnight score of 277-7, ended on 339 all out with Devon Clements finding form after a patchy start to the competition by crafting 92 not out with seven fours and six sixes.
Seon Hetmyer, who resumed on 51, was eventually dismissed for 71.
East Bank Demerara spinners Steven Jacobs (3-59) and Ryan Shun (2-16) were the pick of the lot.
National youth all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford blasted 106 with 10 sixes and six fours in a losing cause. He also claimed 2-31 as East Bank in their second innings facing a deficit of 234, were flattened for 196.
With the absence of left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, teammate and fellow left-arm spinner Kassim Khan followed up his first innings 5-37 with magical figures of 7-25 which took his match haul to 12-62.
Khan now has 33 wickets from his four games while Johnathan Foo’s all-round form continued with a score of 42 in the first innings and figures of 2-30 supporting his teammate Khan.
Over at the Enterprise Ground, East Coast Demerara went on to rack up an imposing 346 all out after they restarted day two solidly placed on 294-6 thanks to contributions from Chandrapaul Hemraj (81), Kamesh Yadram (53), Bhaskar Yadram (48) and Ramnarine Chatura (34).
Bowling for West Berbice spinner Collis Butts wreaked havoc with figures of 6-98 playing in his first match of the competition while Andre Dutchin supported with (2-72).
In reply, West Berbice were kept to 160 despite efforts from top-scorers Sherwin McPherson (39) and Leon Andrews (28).
National pacer Paul Wintz starred with the ball for East Coast Demerara claiming 4-27 while his teammate Hemraj returned with the ball to claim 2-22. West Berbice in their second innings are 9-0 after being asked to follow on.
At Bourda, play was called off without a ball being ball for the second consecutive day in the match between Georgetown and Essequibo as was the same at Tuschen in the match between West Demerara and Upper Corentyne.
With all the sides playing for points, play tomorrow will be crucial on day three but play is expected at Tuschen, Bourda and Enterprise.
