Dear Editor,
Why would former officials of the WICB demand forensic audits of the board at this time, implying that there might be financial improprieties of some sort at a time when you desperately want current management to voluntarily demit their offices? Such a suggestion will almost certainly motivate these officials to dig in their heels. Politicians first ask directors to dissolve the corporation that is their power base, and that virtually defines them. It is something like Archie Bunker asking Edith to stifle herself, and now comes this stuff. The upshot of both these moves is to delay the prospect of any change for several years.
People who are serious about changing the governance of West Indies cricket quickly, and who have the capacity to separate the governing issues from the immediate business of winning, which frankly I fear dominates the thinking, must do whatever it takes to get themselves elected to the board, which they can restructure themselves and get some people who understand managing a modern sports team to deal with the cricket business. Since there are regular elections and different leaders are chosen at those elections, that does not seem to be impossible. Unless these people come forward nothing will be achieved.
Yours faithfully,
Romain Pitt
