Plaisance recorded an unlikely 2-1 win over Victoria Kings when the National Milling Company (Namilco) Thunderbolt Flour U17 National Championships continued yesterday.
Played at the Melanie Community Centre ground and falling behind owing to a 23rd minute penalty conversion from Kevin Maxwell, the Plaisance unit compliments of a second half brace sealed the come-from-behind win.
Jaheel Hinds commenced the comeback as he levelled proceedings with a right foot shot into the back of the net in the 65th minute. The win was then sealed 10 minutes later compliments of a Jermaine Thompson effort.
With the outcome, Plaisance claimed a deserved three points.
Earlier, Buxton United and Mahaica Determinators battled to a 1-1 stalemate. Kobe Durant gave Buxton the lead in the 20th minute before Ozelle Jacobs equalized in the 60th for Mahaica.
The both zones will continue on Saturday and Sunday at the respective venues with another doubleheader.
Meanwhile, over in West Demerara, league leaders Den Amstel maintained their unbeaten run as they edged Slingerz FC 4-3g. The home side survived a second half blitz from the visitors to claim the result after leading 3-1 at the halftime break.
Rueben Dainty bagged a first half brace in the second and 35th minute while Keswin Fraser netted in the third minute to give Den Amstel a sizeable lead. On target for Slingerz in the first period was Odel Duncan in the sixth minute.
The momentum then changed sides in the second half as the visitors recorded two goals in an effort to overturn the deficit. Duncan and Ronaldo Massey scored in the 47th and 57th minute to level proceedings.
However, the hosts claimed the hard-fought result as Fraser netted his second in the 70th minute. For the hosts, it was their fifth consecutive win.
They further solidify their position atop the standings on 15 points. On the other hand, Slingerz FC remain in the second position on four points.
