As the police continue to probe last week’s robbery/home invasion which occured at Registrar of Deeds Azeena Baksh’s home two persons were arrested for questioning and later released.
Acting Commander of ‘A’ Division Marlon Chapman, when contacted for a comment, told Stabroek News that apart from the Baksh robbery, the two men were also questioned in connection with other offences.
Baksh of the Young Professionals Housing Scheme, Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was robbed of a quantity of electronics and jewellery last Wednesday around 1.15 pm after two armed bandits invaded her home. At the time, she was at her home while a security guard was on duty and a contractor was present carrying out some exterior work.
This newspaper had previously reported that the bandits, one of whom was masked and both armed with handguns, gained entry after the contractor reportedly opened the gate.
Before he could have re-entered the men pulled firearms and held the security guard at gunpoint. They then walked him to Baksh’s door and ordered that he call on her and ask for a glass of water. They forced their way into the house and proceeded to tie her up along with the security guard and contractor.
They then carted off a quantity of electronics and a gold chain valued at some $180,000. Shortly after the ordeal, a relative of Baksh arrived at the house and freed them. Investigations are ongoing.
