Trinidad and Tobago’s national U20 football team ended their two match tour of Guyana on a losing note going down to the Elite League All-Stars 0-1 Sunday at the Leonora Sports Facility, West Demerara.
Fresh off their 2-1 upset win of Alpha United, the youngsters from the twin-island republic found the task in front of them a tougher proposition.
The starting lineup for the locals was Colin Nelson, Quincy Adams, Trevon Lythcott, William Europe, Vurlon Mills, Daniel Wilson, Kevin Beaton, Dwight Peters, Pernell Schultz and Hubert Pedro.
National midfielder and current Slingerz FC talisman Mills sealed the contest which was dominated by the local contingent with a first half goal.
Losing his marker inside the centre of the box, the tricky midfielder directed his header into the back of the net after latching onto a right side cross from a Colin Nelson left foot free-kick.
The one week training camp for the Trinidad and Tobago unit was part of their preparation for the Caribbean U20 Cup in Curacao next month.
The event’s top five finishers will advance to the CONCACAF stage which is the second round of qualifiers for progress to the U20 World Cup in the Republic of Korea.
On the local side, the matches were used by the national staff to give players exposure ahead of the preparation for the third round of the CFU Caribbean Cup Championship in October.
