A young man remains hospitalised with injuries to his right leg after he was struck down by police officers last Friday.
Shawn Robinson, 24, and a friend, Sinai Bell, were on their way home from work around 4.30pm when they were struck by a police vehicle, PTT 6107, in Guyhoc Park.
According to Bell, they were on Robinson’s motorcycle at the time and as they were about to make a turn, he observed the police vehicle.
He added that Robinson drove onto a parapet only for the police vehicle to turn in their direction without any signal.
As a result, they were both hit off the bike, resulting in Bell suffering minor scratches and Robinson nursing injuries to his right leg along with other injuries about his body.
Bell added that after the accident occurred, the officers began to curse and accused his friend of not having papers for his bike.
He stated that he picked up the bike and caught a cab to the hospital, while his friend was dropped off at the Georgetown Public Hospital by the officers.
Bell expressed anger at the fact that the officers only dropped off his friend at the hospital and did not remain to see if they were okay.
When asked if he would be able to identify the officers who hit them, Bell stated that he would.
He added that two officers were in uniform.
When contacted for comment, Traffic Chief Deon Moore told this newspaper that he was unaware of such an incident occurring.
Family members of both Robinson and Bell are seeking justice and want the ranks to face disciplinary action for their behaviour.
