Dear Editor,
The Bureau of Statistics acknowledges and appreciates the interest shown by members of the public in the analysis completed to date for the 2012 Population and Housing Census published in Compendiums 1 and 2 via our website.
In response to the two letters published on Friday, September 9, 2016 and Sunday September 11, 2016, authored by Dr Ramesh Gampat, the Bureau will be responding in detail to both letters to clarify any misinterpretations or misconceptions of topic areas covered in both compendiums, after the dissemination of Compendium 3, which is imminent.
However, I would like to clear the air on one point made by Dr Gampat in his letter dated September 9, in which he stated “the latter report was prepared with the support of a consultant funded by the United Nations Development Programme,” referring to the 2002 Population and Housing Census Report. Please be advised that both reports have been prepared by the identical person, and we at the Bureau are confident that there has been no slippage in his quality of work.
Yours faithfully,
Lennox Benjamin
Chief Statistician
Bureau of Statistics
