A New Amsterdam businessman was yesterday robbed of his gold chain costing $700,000. According to information gathered, Ramroop Rajnauth, 59, known as ‘Danzi’, President of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association and of Kent Street, New Amsterdam was returning home from a bar around 01:30 hrs yesterday when a bandit approached him and snatched his gold chain. At the time, Rajnauth had gotten out of his vehicle to open his gate. The perpetrator made his escape on foot.
Meanwhile, a businessman of Cottage Tree Village, West Coast Berbice, was returning home around 11 pm on Tuesday when two men approached him with a beer bottle and demanded cash. Haurany Budhram, 35, was about to enter his yard when a scuffle broke out. As a result, the men hit Budhram in his face with the bottle causing minor injuries. During the scuffle, one of the perpetrators pushed his hands into Budhram’s pocket and snatched $30,000 in cash. He was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he received medical attention. A police source says that no arrest has yet been made in connection with the incidents.
