The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) venue inspector arrived on local shores yesterday and officially scrutinized the Leonora Sports Facility for its suitability for Guyana’s third round meeting with regional powerhouse Jamaica.
According to sources close to the federation, the inspection was conducted last evening at the proposed venue in the West Demerara region by a lone Barbadian official and the results will be known in the coming week.
The sources further revealed that the examination lasted for more than an hour in the presence of several members of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the National Sports Commission boss and Director of Sports, Christopher Jones.
Initially it was indicated by the GFF that a team of CFU inspectors were scheduled to arrive on local shores today to examine the facility which is slated to play host to Jamaica on October 11th.
President of the federation Wayne Forde during an earlier interview with this daily said he is confident that the facility will be approved for the upcoming fixture against Jamaica.
Forde revealed that the federation had been issued with the necessary requirements and criteria for the venue to be green-lighted for the match.
According to the GFF Chief, some of the requirements included internet, hard-wire, telephone connection, proper washroom facilities and dressing rooms, as well as security licenses from the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service.
Guyana is slated to open their campaign on October 8th against Suriname in Paramaribo, before hosting the Jamaicans three days later.
