Former West Indies U19 opening batsman Tagenarine Chanderpaul narrowly missed out on a double century as West Demerara took control of their fifth round match of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Franchise League tournament at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground yesterday.
Chanderpaul slammed 187 as West Demerara, resuming on 164-2 in reply to Georgetown’s 170 all out, were dismissed for 357.
He was supported by Akshaya Persaud who made 72.Gajanand Singh 3-89, Kellon Carmichael 2-35 and Andre Stoll, 2-50 were the main wicket takers while there was a wicket each for Christopher Barnwell and Ronaldo Alimohamed.
Batting a second time with a deficit of 187, Georgetown were 62-3 with Robin Bacchus, four, Andrew Lyght jnr., 23 and Sunil Singh 32 the batsmen dismissed. Barnwell and Jahron Byron are the not out batsmen on four and seven runs respectively.
Meanwhile, at Port Mourant, Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s father Shivnarine, scored 55 as Essequibo, resuming on 99-4 in reply to Upper Corentyne’s 206/9 declared, fell 165 with Eon Hooper taking five wickets for 30 runs.
Batting a second time, Upper Corentyne, made 201. Clinton Pestano, 47, Kevlon Anderson, 40, Eon Hooper, 40 and Jason Sinclair, 20 were the principal scorers.
Chasing 243 for an outright win Essequibo were 0-1 with Rayon Fredericks, back in the pavilion.
At the Albion Community Development Centre ground Lower Corentyne and East Coast Demerara were locked in battle with the latter team 97-7 replying to Lower Corentyne’s 193 of which Seon Hetmyer top scored with 54 while Surujnarine Kandasammy scored 46 and Jonathan Foo, 37.
At the Enterprise Community Development Centre ground, East Bank Demerara, replying to West Berbice’s 407-9 declared, were 275-8.
Danny Narayan, 72 and Tevin Imlach, 70, were the principal scorers while Keyron Fraser took 3-41 and Kevin Jawahir 3-59.
